Modernising a Public-Sector Infrastructure Application
Modernisation, migration, reporting, and ongoing engineering for SIB-BW2 street-object infrastructure management.
Software engineer — Luis Martin Schick / VertexWare
Situation / problem
SIB-BW2 manages street-object infrastructure for public-sector stakeholders. The application required ongoing feature work, bug fixes, quality work, and migration from an older Java/Karaf runtime to a current stack.
Previous system or workflow
The existing system carried legacy data and reporting requirements across Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MSSQL operations. Stakeholders also needed direct German-language coordination and technical documentation.
Solution
- Worked on the Java 8/Karaf to Java 21/Spring Boot modernisation work.
- Developed the primary migration tool for the ASB-Object (ASB-ING) standard.
- Built the majority of the reporting functionality from zero.
- Delivered bug fixes, features, quality work, stakeholder liaison, and technical documentation.
Concrete result
- The team is migrating the application from Java 8/Karaf to Java 21/Spring Boot while development continues.
- The primary migration tool moves legacy data toward the ASB-Object (ASB-ING) standard.
- I built most of the reporting functionality while the application remained in active development.
Delivery scope and role
- Software-engineer delivery in the existing product team
- Direct German-language liaison with state-government stakeholders
- Technical documentation alongside migration, reporting, bugs, and features
